Vehicle Description

RARE FACTORY MANUAL IN DESIRABLE MOONBEAM GREY

DATE OF MANUFACTURE: 1977 | COLOUR: MOONBEAM GREY | INTERIOR TRIM: BLACK LEATHER | SOLD

MODEL HISTORY & PRODUCTION
Introduced in 1973, the ‘Series 3’ employed a quartet of Weber 42 DCNF carburettors instead of the previous Bosch mechanical fuel injection, the change bringing with it increased torque and necessitating a larger bonnet bulge. The power output of the standard car was around 300bhp and even in automatic transmission form, the V8 could reach 100mph in around 15 seconds and better 145mph flat-out. The manual was much improved too. Summarising its 1973 road test of a V8 automatic, Autocar magazine revealed that the new version of the V8 Aston engine with four Weber carburettors and automatic transmission had proved nearly as quick as its manual-transmission fuel-injected predecessor and fractionally more economical, concluding that it was: “A well-equipped car with magnificent stride for long journeys.” Later Series 3 cars were fitted with ‘S’ specification engines with improved camshaft, valves, carburettors and exhaust. Only some 184 “S” specification models were produced and very limited in manual form.

THIS ACTUAL CAR
This Aston Martin V8 S was first registered on 07/09/1977 to C Skerman & Sons in Sudbury on Thames. It comes with an impressive history file noting its owners, service invoices and restoration work documentation from 1982 onwards. The fifth owner is noted as Mr Walduck, the owner of The Imperial London Hotels who entrusted the service in 1982 to Richard Stuart Williams (R S Williams).

The history file also contains a number of early and late MOTs. The earliest of which in 1981 notes the mileage as 29,879. Having been looked after by a well-known Aston Martin specialist, and with its recent restoration completed by a Marque specialist to the tune of over £100,000, this vehicle is a delight. A full engine rebuild and other mechanical works were carried out by Oselli at 79,482 miles at a cost of £53,000. The mileage now showing on the odometer is 81,356.

The above works included a full bare metal repaint in its now current Moonbeam Grey. A full cosmetic detail has been carried out by Lux Detailing and mechanical service in preparation for sale by Lux Classics.

This vehicle will represent a good acquisition opportunity for a collector, investor or first time classic car buyer. It’s available for viewing in the UK near Stansted Airport on an appointment basis.
