MODEL HISTORY & PRODUCTION
The Mercedes Benz W111 Coupe was manufactured from 1961 to 1971 in several engine sizes. Starting with the 220SE, then the 250SE and 280SE with straight six engines. 1967 saw the introduction of the 3.5 litre V8. This 1967 250SE is one of the rarest, being in production for only 2 years from September 1965 to December 1967, during which time only 5,259 examples were built.

With disc brakes all round and fully independent suspension comprising coil springs and wishbones to the front, and swing axles with radius arms and coil springs to the rear, the 250SE offered an impeccable ride quality with a statesman like road presence.

Through an automatic, or 4-speed manual transmission, power was delivered by a 2,496cc straight-six engine with mechanical Bosch fuel injection developing 148 hp. With leisurely performance, the 250SE was never seen as a quick car, but rather one representing fine engineering, solidity, and luxury.

Discontinued in 1971, the W111 is now widely recognised as a piece of timeless design owing to its elegance and simplicity – a formula that proved the basis for many future models to draw their stylistic inspiration from.

THIS VEHICLE
Manufactured in 1967, this largely original Mercedes-Benz 250SE was delivered new in this lovely period white (since repainted at some stage) but retains its factory-fitted red leather interior and plush mid-red carpet – both still in fine order.

After having sourced this 250SE on behalf of a previous owner (who later purchased a 280SE 3.5 V8 powered coupe from us), Lux Classics know this vehicle very well. We believe there have been three registered UK keepers, with the most recent being well known in the music industry.

In very original condition, with a strong undercarriage (rarely seen on UK based cars, unless restored) it has the desirable specifications of air conditioning (although not tested), power steering and manual transmission. Extensive works to the brakes, cooling system, ignition and fuel systems have been carried out together with cosmetics to refurbish woodend dash pieces, period radio, seat belts & conolise interior to the the tune of £30,000, making this a mechanically well-sorted example. And with the regular maintenance attended to by our team, this continues to be a fine, smooth driving Mercedes-Benz 250SE which will be a pleasure to own.

It presents very well, with lovely finishing touches including the restored Burr Walnut dash and panel work, adding to a superior finish and feel. The wind down windows provide a pillarless, clean appearance – a design feature of the Mercedes-Benz coupe bloodline still seen today.

The car comes with a small history file, original handbook, new upgraded period looking Becker radio, original tool roll kit, jack and original rubber boot mat.

It comes highly recommended by Parry Chana at Lux Classics: “In my opinion, this well preserved and mechanically sorted car, has resulted in a Mercedes-Benz 250SE Coupe which not only looks stunning, but also delivers an ease of driving, with light, smooth power steering, manual gear shift and an extremely quiet drivetrain”

This vehicle is available for viewing in our showroom in Great Leighs UK, near Stansted Airport on an appointment basis. It would complement any car collection, and represents a good acquisition opportunity.
