EXCEPTIONAL RESTORATION OF A MERCEDES-BENZ 190SL MANUFACTURED IN 1961. ORIGINAL NATO AFFILIATED DELIVERY TO ENGLISH SPECIFICATION AND RESIDING IN DRY STATE OF USA, WITH IMPORTATION TO UK BY ITS CURRENT OWNER.
The Mercedes Benz 190SL was manufactured from 1955 to 1963. This late production 1961 is one of the last updated 190SL’s in production.
Original delivery was in striking Light Blue exterior paint, now in a lovely period correct metallic finish complemented by Tan Roser / Leather interior & Navy Blue Mohair soft top.
The 190SL was purchased from its first owner by Doctor D. Keith Cooper on the 25th April 1969, who owned the car right through to 2013. It was sold to a motor dealer in the USA and described as a ‘Barn Find’ when it was acquired by its current owner on 7th February 2014.
Extensive full restoration work was completed by its current owner retaining as much as possible attention to detail of original parts. The restoration was completed by Emblem Sports Cars in Poole. Tim Bate, director and leading Ferrari specialist at Emblem managed the whole project. Emblem’s approach to restoration work is not to have all the players under one roof but instead to use the best specialists in their fields with whom they have worked over the years.
The bodyshell was stripped down to bare metal and fabrication including paint was handled by the expert attention of Andrew Mitchell Bodyworks.
The trimwork was passed on to Kevin Baggs who was careful to match the style of the leather in the original form plus replicate the type of stitching as applied in 1961 at the factory.
The brightwork was a challenge and entrusted to the expert hands of Adrian Palmer at Alderney Plating with stunning results.
The mechanical sub-assemblies were left in the hands of Parry Chana of Lux Classics. With many years’
experience in show winning 190SL’s and well known presented classic cars on TV and in Magazines; the engine, transmission, Solex Carburetors and rear axle were meticulously rebuilt by his team of experts.
